TCPIP$NTP & Time Server

Post by vmskostoff » Mon Nov 04, 2019 6:21 pm

Looking for a method to utilize TCPIP$NTP with a time server/service.
Is there a good way to sync time on an OpenVMS node?
This would be for: OpenVMS 8.4 (Itanium), OpenVMS 7.3-1 (Alpha).

The procedure to set up NTP is described in the TCP/IP Services documentation (see e.g. here). If your systems have connection to the internet, you'll find lots of systems you can configure as a time server. Without an NTP server to synchronize to, there are options use local devices (e.g. radio clocks) as a time server. To synchronize time between two systems running NTP - regardless of the "real" time - you configure them as peers.
