(9911) BACKUP and INSVIRMEM Insufficient Virtual Memory?

Post by User » Sat Nov 06, 2004 8:26 am

While doing an image/backup of a disk drive, I received the following error.

Code: Select all

LIB-F-INSVIRMEM, insufficient virtual memory error.
How do i know if my image backup is complete to be able to restore the image?

The OpenVMS Wizard would not expect to see this particular error from a BACKUP operation, as the facility (LIB) is not what would be expected here. (If there is a LIBRARIAN operation involved in the BACKUP, then this error might well be relevant, however.) For information on the insufficient virtual memory (INSVIRMEM) error please see the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) discussion of this error.

For information on recommended process quotas for BACKUP, please see the current version of the OpenVMS System Management Essentials manual.

As for knowing whether or not this or any other BACKUP operation will be restorable, the answer is the same as any other archival operation: you must test the restore pass. The BACKUP archival pass is never the most interesting and most important part of the entire operation, the restore pass is.
