Update needed on similar previous questions to the Wizard.
Planning to use Windows 2003 domain with Advanced Server (as a member role) I
used on a test Alpha machine OpenVMS V7.3-2 and Advanced Server V7.3A ECO3
combination with success. Now I want to migrate our production Alpha machine
(OVMS V7.2-1 and Pathwork
s V6.0D) to the same successful combination. Which would be the migration path?
First Pathworks to Advanced Server or first OpenVMS V7.2-1 to V7.3-2?
(9843) Which Upgrade First? OpenVMS or Advanced Server?
Re: (9843) Which Upgrade First? OpenVMS or Advanced Server?
The OpenVMS Wizard would tend to disable the PATHWORKS (or
Advanced Server) startup and then upgrade OpenVMS first, and
then upgrade Advanced Server and re-enable the startup.
Neither PATHWORKS 6.0D on OpenVMS Alpha 7.3-2 nor Advanced
Server V7.3A-ECO3 on OpenVMS Alpha 7.2-1 are considered
supported configurations. Of these two, the former is more
likely to function through the OpenVMS upgrade (should you
not disable it during the uprade sequence, as suggested
above), hence the suggestion to upgrade OpenVMS first, and
to then upgrade Advanced Server.
You will want to review the OpenVMS release notes and upgrade
manuals, as well as the equivalent Advanced Server product
documentation, of course.
