Free AXP

I currently run OpenVMS on the Free AXP emulator under the original DEC Hobbyist license, soon to expire.
I would like to continue this hobbyist use of VMS. Can I sign up for the VSI Alpha Community License and use Free AXP to run VSI's Alpha product?
Thanks

Yes, you can. You'd have to upgrade your HP OpenVMS installation to VSI OpenVMS, though, which might be a problem, depending on what version of HP OpenVMS you're running. An upgrade to VSI OpenVMS Alpha V8.4-2L1 is only supported from HP OpenVMS Alpha V7.3-2, V8.3, or V8.4 - see the
Upgrade manual.

I'm running OpenVMS 8.4. So, if I understand you, can use my current FreeAXP virtual machine as a basis to upgrade to VSI OpenVMS. That's interesting and, hopefully, makes the transition considerably easier. I'll check out the Installation and Upgrade Manual.
One question: are there any differences between the Layered Products provided with the 'old' DEC Hobbyist PAK and the new VSI one?
Thanks

Paolo,
VSI has made licensing considerably easier for Alpha, in that you get only two PAKs: one for the OS and one for layered products. I'm assuming that all VSI LPs are covered by the provided ALPHA-LP license.

Fwiw - there are hobbyist licenses going around with a 1-JAN-2026 termination date AUTH=HOBBYIST-VA-KEYFINAL-200301
They were available on request from HP in early 2020, and not tied to s specific person.
Hein.

@martinv
Thanks. I've applied for an Alpha Community license.
@hein
Yes, I'd heard of those but I think I'll go with the 'official' licenses
Thanks
