Hi
My Ilo tells me fan 2 is failing. I trito find the location of this fan in the maintenance manuals, but I could not find it, because the manuals point to the fans but do not give the numbers (0..7). So which fan is which?

Re: locate fans in a RX2600
HP Integrity rx2600 Server and HP zx6000 Workstation - Operations and Maintenance Guide (Document Part Number: 5991-5988 - Aug. 2007)
"rx2600 System Fans: there are four system fans that keep the server cool when it is running. The system fans are hot-swappable. This enables you to replace a fan while the server is running.
CAUTION: When the server is running, you must replace the top cover within four minutes to prevent components from overheating.
To remove a system fan, follow these steps
1. Remove the server covers.
2. Remove the fan.
a) Grasp the appropriate fan and lift it out of the fan socket to remove it:
◆ fan 1A, 1B, 2, or 3 from a rack-mounted server, or
◆ fan 3 from a pedestal-mount server"
The position of fan 2 is indicated by the red arrow.

Yeah I found that, but they are labeled 1A,1B,2 & 3 and not 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7

Re: locate fans in a RX2600
Code: Select all
I have a pair of rx2600 systems, but no useful (relevant)
information. If I were desperate, I might try jamming one fan at a time
(creating a new fan problem at a known location), and looking for
interesting patterns in the resulting iLO messages.
Re: locate fans in a RX2600
I think I will replace all 4 double fans tomorrow and find out later which one is broken.
For the numbering there are 2 options:
option 1:
ilo -> machine
0 -> 1A
1 -> 1B
2 -> 2
3 -> 3
4 -> fan of Power supply
5 -> fan of Power supply
6,7 -> ????
option 2
ilo -> machine
0,1 -1A
2,3 -> 1B
4,5 -> 2
6,7 -> 3
No idea what is right.

I replace all 4 fans, but I still get the fan2 failure in the ILO.
Machiner is running OpenVMS fine by the way.
