DECWindows & Virtualisation
I am running OpenVMS 9.2 virtual machine on VirtualBox V6.1 from on a Linux Mint host. I have successfully been able to boot VMS and logged on to a terminal session via the PuTTY I can now do most things from the CLI. Is it possible to get DECWindows running on this configuration, or not? If it can be done, can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: DECWindows & Virtualisation
DecWindows works fine; if you use "set disp/crea/node=xxx/tran=xxx" you can run prgrams and let them display on the server from which you logged on, provided that this server allows you to do it.
But probably you mean the Desktop. I never tried it, but as I understood that does not work yet.
BTW X-tunneling through SSH doen not work yet

The desktop does not work, this topic has more info: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8601&start=10
But as the previous post says, you can run individual programs just fine

Re: DECWindows & Virtualisation
X-tunneling via SSH will be supported by the OpenSSH V8.9I kit scheduled for release in May 2024 (as reported in the new dynamic roadmaps at https://vmssoftware.com/about/roadmap/)

Re: DECWindows & Virtualisation
The oldschool DECwindows Motif desktop seems to work fine, however the "New Desktop" (aka CDE) does not work.

Re: DECWindows & Virtualisation
Thanks to all who have responded to my post. I will await developments with interest.
Incidentally, how will I know when the OpenSSH V8.9I kit scheduled for release in May 2024 is available?
Also how do I get the kit installed on my system? At the moment I have no idea how configure my system to connect with the internet, presumably by configuring & starting TCP/IP?
Once again any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: DECWindows & Virtualisation
@sys$manager:tcpip$configure can be used to configure & start/stop TCPIP
once configured it it wise to start it at boot time by uncommenting the tcpip-startup-line in sys$manager:systartup_vms.com
OpenSSH is a separate product that has to be started if TCPIP is running. You can find the latest versions at:
https://vmssoftware.com/products/openssh/
When released I presume the V8.9I can be obtained from there.
