You're right. The Boot_Flags are different for x86. I"m not sure where they are documented.

I sent email to the documentation & QA folks to see if they know about this issue...in the mean time...

I'm guessing that you already know how to work around the issue (?) ... if not (and for anyone who stumble on this looking for a work around): You'd use the some of the same steps in the following section (3.2.2 "Upgrading a Non-shadowed System Disk"):

Shell> map -b
Shell> fsx:\efi\vms\vms_bootmgr # where the "x" in "fsx" is a bootable file system [in the map -b display]

...which will get you the BOOTMGR> prompt, which is proceeded by a "splash screen" with some useful information, including:

DEFAULT BOOT COMMAND: BOOT DKE100 0x00 0x00000000

The 0x00 is the system root, the 0x00000000 are the FLAGS (my disk is DKE100:)

To boot "conversational" (to get the SYSBOOT> prompt) you'd do (replace DKE100 with the device spec of your disk):

BOOTMGR> BOOT DKE100 0 1 # root 0, flag=1

From the BOOTMGR> prompt HELP is your friend :-), also FLAGS (which will give a summary of the flags that you can specify)

Once you get the SYSBOOT> prompt the rest of the instructions in section 3.2.1 should be the same

Yep, I know how to successfully boot VMS into conversational boot in x86 environment (and thank you for reporting it in your post). I simply brought to VSI's attention that in those paragraphs there are instructions valid only for the Integrity platform (vms_loader.efi) and not for x86 platform (vms_bootmgr.efi)

Thank you also for raising this issue to the VSI documentation team.

Kind regards,
