Somewhat new operator here. Hi everyone !

I am curious how most are updating software on their systems. Sofar all I can tell is just go back to https://sp.vmssoftware.com/#/packages and doing a manual comparison by date and such between systems that you have deployed already.

Is there a better way ?

Maybe a update mailing list for notifications ?

TIA,

This was asked in comp.os.vms today - at least updating systems from themselves - about a tool that's been vaugely heard of, and is referenced in the service portal called VSP.

I'm not sure if anything ever came of it or it was supposed to be commercial only, but in the SP's FAQ side... is -

"VSP is a tool that centralizes interaction with some of OpenVMS management tools, such as SHC and T4, and provides a way to directly connect OpenVMS systems to the Service Platform and can be used as a package manager tool to automatically download and locally install packages. This tool provides a syntax very similar to DCL and includes an interactive help facility."

and - "Another way to download files is to install and run VSP on OpenVMS and use its CLI to get files to your OpenVMS-managed system."

But no other references to be found other than a few old usenet posts mentioning it in passing. Maybe it got canned in favor of some other priority.

To get added to the VMS newsletter, go to the vmssoftware.com website, scroll to the bottom and look in the bottom right corner for the button with "Subscribe to our newsletter", fill out the form and send it in.
