Latest OpenSoftware Releases for x86

Post by reinhardtjh » Mon Jul 31, 2023 4:13 pm

I'm not sure if this is where to put this, but the email that recently came out with the monthly release notices ("VMS Software Monthly Product Updates" of 27-JUL-2023) announced new versions of some software for Alpha, IA64 and x86. When I look in the SP I can see the x86 versions of the install packages, but some (LibMariaDB and OpenLDAP) are greyed out. When I look on the Open Source page for the item, it notes that there is an x86 version available, but no download links - just links for Alpha and IA64.

Can someone check into this and fix the SP availability?

Thank you.

VMS921X_UPDATE-V0100

Post by reinhardtjh » Thu Aug 24, 2023 1:47 pm

Just a heads up - The recently announced Software Update - "VMS921X_UPDATE-V0100" is marked inaccessible to me and I presume other CLP members in the Service Portal. If this is intentional, okay. If it was not, then hopefully someone can look into it.

If you use the Acrobat reader, you can select to view at a larger font size. Most readers I have come across allow this

@CCT , Thank you for a work around . Tho (un?)fortunately I am a Linux user and prefer xpdf . There are probably other such tools that will allow the ability to increase font size or evev change the font weight . I'll have to search out those tools with such options .

Thank You Agn , JimL

Definitely "fortunately". Normally I use the document reader which launches straight from Dolphin, and that certainly has the zoom option. I thought I'd install xpdf and have a look for you, there are at least four solutions to your problem:
  • In the toolbar at the top are a large "+" and "-". They simply increase or decrease the size.
  • To the right of the "+" is a drop down box with a percentage in it, select a higher percentage for a larger font.
  • If working from the command line use the -z qualifier, for example: $ xpdf -z "150%" myfile.pdf
  • For a permanent enlargement, set initialZoom in the configuration file.
