proxmox - stuck in boot ..

i have downloaded the community disk and added it to a proxmox vm as qcow2 disk

the wm is - as far as i know - configured correctly - 2+ cpus, 8 gb ram, serial console. no errors seen.

but when booting this happens:

I know nothing at all about proxmox, but I did see a year old thread on another forum that said the following prevented their hang at startup:
You need to add the following line to the /etc/pve/qemu-server/<vmid>.conf file for your OpenVMS VM (while it's powered down, of course)...

args: -no-hpet
I don't know if that's accurate or useful.
There was also the following proxmox thread on here about a year back:

I was having a similar problem.

For me, the answer was to CONFIGURE THE DISKS AS SATA.

IDE AND SCSI WOULD NOT BOOT ON PROXMOX. I had no issue on Debian/Ubuntu systems with QEMU/KVM booting on SCSI/IDE, but on Proxmox it would not work. (I even had the community vmdk booting on qemu/kvm on WSL (I would not recommend that exercise to the user))
