Registration Issues

Post by drc68 » Fri Mar 01, 2024 1:43 pm

I am attempting to register for a Community License, however after submitting the form all I see is a spinning wheel, and it never seems to complete.

I have tried in the past as well, and while the form seemed to have submitted successfully those times, I never received any confirmation emails. I have been trying since last summer.

Is something amiss with the Community License registration portal?

Thanks!

I have been trying to renew an Alpha license since this past September. I've tried two or three times. I do get the message acknowleding the request, but I have not received the new license.

I have seen a note that they are way behind in fulfilling the requests, but those notes were mainly for the X86 version. As I recall they did say they were giving renewals a higher priority.

I'm having the same thing happen: I just get the spinner, hanging forever. If there was a renewal feature I never figured it out, so I was just going through https://vmssoftware.com/community/community-license/ ; my x86_64 license is still valid for now, but my Alpha license has expired.

M1 Mac, MacOS Sonoma 14.2.1, and it happens on all of Firefox, Firefox in Private Browsing, and Safari.

Code: Select all

I thought that the same (long, complicated, *.hubspotemail.net/*)
link which led to the SEP-2022 PAK file with the
"/TERMINATION_DATE=22-SEP-2023" specs was still working, but now leads
to a different file with "/TERMINATION_DATE=22-AUG-2024" specs.

If you still have an e-mail message like the one I got on
14-SEP-2022:
      From: SMTP%"community@vmssoftware.com"
Subj: Your new OpenVMS community licenses
then you might try it again.

The Registration Page for Community licenses is experiencing issues at this time.

This has already been mentioned in an earlier post: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8542&start=10

The IT team is looking into the issue.

If you have already been able to submit your request then please be patient as we are still sifting through all the applications for Community Licenses.

Thank you, I imagine the stack is still quite tall. I appreciate your efforts.

Best,

Thanks for the tip but good grief. I just tried this and now have licenses expiring 22-AUG-2024. I've been waiting over five months for my renewals and told to wait patiently because of the length of the queue, but apparently my new licenses have already been at the same place as the old licenses since . . . when? Maybe someone simply forgot to send the notices in September 2023 equivalent to the ones in September 2022, when they appeared in my inbox without my needing to request anything or re-apply.

They were probably in disguise. I was made aware of the 2023 renewal in an email that arrived on 9/11/2023 with the subject "OpenVMS on x86 Community Update"
Dear OpenVMS Community Members,

We are witnessing stable interest in OpenVMS, especially since the x86 license was made available for the community. We are very grateful for your devotion and your great help with identifying issues with the products that were recently released.

We have also received a few emails about the licenses expiring on your Alpha and Integrity systems. To download the updated PAKs for your systems, find the email that you received from us upon approval of your application for the community license and click on the link for the appropriate architecture. The archive containing the license script will be automatically downloaded to your PC. Create a COM file on your OpenVMS system by issuing $ CREATE PAK.COM, copy the license script from your local system text editor, paste it to the terminal window, and then close the file by pressing <Ctrl-Z>. Run the script by issuing @PAK.COM, and your system will be activated for another year.

If you lost the registration email from us, please reapply for the community license once again by using the website form and explicitly specify that you already are an active member of the VMS Software Community License Program. We will send you a new link.

Thank you again for your continued interest in OpenVMS. Together we can let OpenVMS make a step to the future.

Best Regards,

OpenVMS Community License Team

Hopefully all the CLP users are email pack rats like me and still have the email referenced. Though I did find that the 2022 email had links to both Alpha and Integrity PAKS and they also work so if you still have that email then you are good. Around July 2024 I'll be clicking those links again just to see if they got stealth updated (I checked just now and still the same Aug 2024 expiration date).

I remember learning about it in some way or other, but I can't find
any evidence of how. If I got that e-mail, I would seem to have lost
it.

I have the message I sent to "community@" on 24-AUG-2023, asking
about the approaching expirations, and I have the encouraging response I
got to that a few days later ("The work is in progress."), but I can't
find an actual notice after that. The suggestion to retry the old URL
either arrived in some other way, or I lost the e-mail.

My zip archive seems to be dated 12-SEP-2023, which is consistent
with "9/11/2023". The contents are a little older:

ITS $ unzip6l -l ALPHA_COMMUNITY_LICENSE_PAK_2023.zip
Archive: SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGR]ALPHA_COMMUNITY_LICENSE_PAK_2023.zip;1
  Length Date Time Name
