Post by babydr » Sun Aug 20, 2023 9:10 pm

Hello All , Though I did a small amount of searching , I found only one individual who had , By dumping them into a CDROM image and copying them from there .

I am interested in other techniques used to do so , Just as an aside .

Type in manually the licenses necessary to get networking working and FTP the file in.

I've attached a PDF of my notes creating a VMS VM. I used the Virtual Machine Manager to create it as Cockpit isn't yet up to scratch. Obviously the whole creation bit is irrelevant. However note the preparation section where I build the "CD", and then later how I connected, mounted and used the licence file.

Don't try to unzip before making the CD, the file won't work. Host system: AlmaLinux 8.8.

Certain terminal emulators (e.g. ITerm2 on macOS) have a "slow paste" mode or equivalent. I use one of these to telnet to the console, open a text editor, and paste the contents of the license file.

It may be possible to do this more generically in Linux by pointing ncat at the console, and using something like pv to control the rate of data transfer. Have not tried this personally though.

The easiest method is to license the BOE line-by-line, activate it, then transfer the file via scp or sftp. Some Windows graphical clients will choke on the DLC shell versus Bourne, so SFTP is a sure winner.

You can set-up TCP/IP after you add the BOE license, and activate it. You'll find it in the PAK in plaintext, and can just copy-paste.
